 The story was started when Erin Gruwell registered herself to be an English teacher at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School which implemented a voluntary integration program for two years. Whereas that program was considered by many existing teachers had ruined the school whose previously stellar academic standing with the highest scores in district, and had been replaced with school that many students who will be lucky to graduate or even be literate. But because of this program, Erin chose this school and she wanted to change their thought about life.

Erin became a teacher of English subject in the class whose students came from some groups. It was very influential clockwise, because there was an issue about racism that was booming moreover after disturbance incident in LA.

Each of them had their own groups based on race and skin. The Latinos hated the Cambodian that hated the blacks and so on. They hated each other, but Erin was the one who they hated together.

At the first, they were not interested to her at all because they thought that she did not know anything about them, about their ways of live. The hard lives they walked on that was life under shadow of war and violence. For them, life was survive from that all.

Many ways were done by Erin for her students in order to be able to reach her students life, but almost there was not any ways gave result. Untill finally she found one method to reach her purpose. She gave all her students books and asked them to write their daily journal.

Many challenges were faced by Erin. Either came from the school or her husband or her dad. The school that always gave different facilities to her students, whereas did not want to lend its books to Erin Gruwell’s students. Her husband that felt not getting her attention finally often had debate with her. And her father that did not ever agree with her because he thought that her job just wasted her time with taught people that did not want to get education.
